This week we are being challenged to come up with a SMART goal to try to become more eco-chic in our environment. Below I will state my goal, tell why it is eco-chic and also explain why I think it is important to me.
1. I will eat 1 serving (3oz) of unprocessed meat a day.
2.This lifestyle change is eco-chic because consuming processed foods are detrimental to our environment. They cause environmental problems like air and water pollution from manure, overuse of fertilizer, cattle belching and the unnecessary use of land to produce feed grains and soil erosion. By consuming less processed meat (deli turkey) I will not only reduce my sodium intake but I will also be one step closer to reducing my carbon footprint.
3. This is important to me because I care about the future of our planet and want to do anything possible to improve our surroundings, even if it means paying a few extra dollars to do so.

Wow that is really cool we had pretty much the same SMART goal in mind. :) I think it will make me feel better in general to eat meat that is more natural, contains less sodium, and is not as detrimental to the environment. I am excited to get started for the next ten weeks!
ReplyDeleteKatie, first off thanks for the helpful tip on the Gatorade and Vitamin Water packets. I knew that Gatorade offered a powder form but didn't realize that Vitamin Water did as well. You have a pretty cool idea for your smart goal. You're very right in that processed foods are harmful to our environment for many reasons you listed above. By consuming less processed foods you will definitely be cutting down on our carbon footprint. I'm glad to see your conviction in helping to preserve our planet for the future generations and I hope you obtain your goal. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteKatie, that is a great goal. I love how most of our goals will actually benefit our personal health while we make a positive impact on the environment. This will be a challenge so I wish you the best of luck in the next 10 weeks.
ReplyDeleteRight on, Katie! This is a great goal! It's easy to eat all sorts of processed foods without even realizing what's in it! Whenever I take a minute and look at the ingredients, I ask myself "What the heck is that?" And if I don't recognize most of the ingredients, I won't eat it!
