Eye Opener: Ecological Footprint
After completing the ecological footprint test, I was kind of shocked by my results. According to the results, if everyone on this planet lived like I do, we would need 4.1 Planet Earths to provide enough resources. It would also take 18.3 global acres of land and produce 16.6 tons of carbon dioxide to support my lifestyle. My ecological footprint was broken down by categories to show how my everyday choices impact my personal footprint. I scored the highest in services at 48% with goods coming in second at 23% and food at 17%. Some things I could do to reduce my impact would be to reduce the amount of animal products I consume, purchase products that use less packaging and are recyclable, car pool whenever possible, and be more energy efficient. I never realized how the little things I do everyday can add up to one big, global problem so quickly. This truly was an eye opener for me!

It was a great eye-opener wasn't it? I was also shocked at my results. There are so many little things we could do to reduce our footprints but we usually don't do them. After seeing these results I'm definitely going to try harder. Afterall, if everyone did live like we do, what would happen to this world?
ReplyDeleteI also thought this was a great eye-opening activity. Leaving an ecological footprint is something I think a lot of people tend to forget and this quiz seems like it's been really good to remind us all of that. There truly are so many little things we can do to minimize our impact. It looks like you have some good ideas for how to start making a difference and I think that's great!
ReplyDeleteI thought this quiz was a very good eye opener as well. I sometimes feel that it is hard to make a drastic change in our consumption of resources unless it is done at a larger level. The little things do add up too!!
ReplyDeleteNo reason to be shocked by your results, they are very common with the rest of our class, and these quizes are meant to be exactly what we have titled them "eye openers."
ReplyDeleteI think it is actually a good thing that most of us were shocked because we need to be shocked by this activity to truly open our eyes. If we weren't shocked, I think it would be harder for us to see the need for behavior change.
